Try a fresh playthrough on the hardest difficulty, the one that you only unlock after clearing the game. It's fucking hard and requires some seriously efficient use of weapons to get anywhere.
I had to turn the difficulty down to take down the final boss, which was soul crushing given that I'd finished the rest of the game on that difficulty legit.
I started trying to level all of the weapons to lvl99 in challenge mode, but I gave up pretty quickly.
