Win 8 still has a desktop, but isn't the idea that they're phasing out support for it? Or is that just some crazy rumour?

No. The idea is that the desktop is there for people who need it and the Metro/whatever interface is there for people who need it.
From what I've read, Win8 is useable by people without touchscreens, but all the significant OS improvements are in the Metro/whatever interface, so there's no real point in upgrading if you're happy with Win7.

Only if the change is shit. Which Windows 8 definitely looks like and I don't care how many good reviews it gets. It looks all Androidey and shit and not what PC are meant to look like.

You can't make that sort of claim based on 'looks like'. It really annoys me all the whiny bitches who complain about Win8 changing things - or, equivalently, Facebook changing things - without trying them. Give it a month or two and most of them won't want to go back to the old interface.
