I don't see why it's a big deal, this 'hurr durr girls on the internet' bull shit is fucking boring. I know as many girls from the net as I do blokes, I think it's just that stereotype that the internet is reserved for sweaty neckbeards and insecure basement dwellers. Generally the people that bring it up are to be honest.
