Y r u so wrong Steve? Y...it was a firm belief that if u scalped/mutilated ur enemies corpse then the enemy cud not challenge u in heaven (The Native Americans heaven) and thus Scalping was a religion practised by many Indian tribes...the French thing...that cud of happened to...i dunno...ill ask.
