I would be annoyed if Sony did something like that without first giving their browser some much needed love.

You don't need the browser to require a good keyboard. Just last week I had to enter my (37 character) wifi password in several times because the onscreen keyboard is so crappy that I kept missing letters and it took frigging ages.
