Most new Apple gadgets seem to only exist for one thing only: To drain your money. Expensive up front, expensive to buy apps for if you want to actually do anything with it, then when it becomes obsolete in a year, not even the charger or data cables will work with the new model.

Also I dunno if it's the same with using your own data from your PC on an iPad, but I found an iPod 4 in a field earlier this year - Nobody claimed it as lost after 3 months so the police said I could keep it. I gave it to a friend, but when he tried to use his own music files with it, it turned out he had to buy them all again through iTunes... He had it jailbreaked just to avoid that, which would've voided the warranty if he'd bought the thing. It's also impossible to use it as USB data storage like you can with other MP3 players.

Apple seem like a bunch of swindlers these days.

EDIT: Even if you've won it, you still may need to buy apps for it. But hey, at least you won't need to buy it up-front. It may be a good deal for you in this case.
If the damn thing pisses me off with Apple bullshit, I can always sell it and still have a nice deal. Since the smartphone mania started, I always used Android. It's simple and complex enough for me and it's quality/price relation is, in most cases, excellent.
