I understand that it would've been nice to keep Oddworld devoid of Earth references, and, yeah, it does seem a little contradictory to the most obvious artistic message, but would you prefer the alternative- instead of sobe in an oddworld game, oddworld characters on a sobe commercial? Abe and Munch discussing the "cool, refreshing taste" during an ad break in a mainstream sitcom? Eww, that's not a pretty image. I think OWI did the Sobe bit because they needed the money, and at least it's a company and product they honestly endorce. And, besides, they even joke about it in the game itself!-"Shameless commercial sponsorship, at it's best". Remember when they talked about chopping off abe's fourth digit because they didn't want to pay Japanese censors who capitolized on their own people's customs- if they were being completely adherent to artistic integrity, OWI would have said "screw you" and published their stuff anyway. Instead, though, they made a statement with a detail that most people wouldn't even notice. It's all connected to the message of Oddworld: corporate influence is disturbing, and sometimes unavoidable. The sobe intrusion is the most miniscule example of it I've ever seen, so lets' just thank Odd we aren't seeing Sligs drinking Pepsi, Interns with N'syc Hats and Nike's on Gluks.
