The thing with Minecraft is that it's boring as fuck when you play it on your own. You can't show off your stuff to anyone and it feels like you are alone in that massive endless world, which isn't very fun. Playing multiplayer, even if no-one is online, you feel part of a community since you come across other people's creations and such.
