The thing is, I don't really have any nostalgia. Which makes me wonder which games are objectively the best, since the historical value is what people usually cite in support of the older ones.

Well like everything, it's all down to opinion. I personally don't think there is a 'Best Game' like there isn't a 'Best Movie'. I guess a way to find an overall best game is to analysis people's opinions and find which game is the most favorited.
