If you want Scribblenauts, I'd suggest renting it. It is fun, but only for about 3 hours.

Besides being a huge nerd who likes to own games, I get the feeling that just buying the game used will be cheap enough to justify.

It plays like a puzzle game, which it essentially is. You can use the stylus or the d-pad to control your spirit from an object to another. You'll get the hang of it very quickly. Also, it has a ton of dialogue so it's not a full-on action game if that's what you're looking for. But yeah, get it. It's fun and the story is good and the characters are very unique and ridiculous in their own ways.
