Nope, you're all partly wrong! In the 40's, the word "cooties" was slang for lice. It was often used during the world war 2, because every one was getting lice, and had to shave their heads... The American army would call them cooties... Then it was changed into some childish word that meant germs coming from the opposite sex.

Well, okay, so at one time, "cooties" were real. But, now since we call lice "lice", then that makes cooties a useless word. That is, until children started using it. (maybe it started with girls because they had long hair. just a thought.) Okay, forget the last sentence. Maybe, the cildren actually used "cooties" to mean "lice", but, the original meaning was eventually forgotten, and started pertaining to everybody, not just people who had lice.
