How easy are vents to spot? They light up like other interactive stuff, right?
e: If I do get spotted, do I just have to go loud and deal with it? Is there a way to outfox the enemy and sneak away?

They do light up, and they are in every area pretty much. And they can help you if you do get spotted, vents are a good way to disappear and lose attention.
Playing Fallout:NW now. I quite enjoy sneaking around with a rifle, hoarding weapon mods and discovering locations in the Mojave. I especially like Vaults for being a separate underground world on their own, with their own sinister backstory that you pick up from records and computer entries.
