And the song wasn't written specifically for this. It's one of the most overplayed songs in existence and is the go-to for trippy/psychedelic/uplifting scenes in media. The fact that the original song is referring to a girl is coincidence at best.
Come on, hardly anything Valve does (especially around big updates) is ever a coincidence. At the very least they put it in with the intent of messing with everyone because they knew the debate had been going for a long time. The video implies Pyro is female, but doesn't confirm it. Which is an extremely Valve thing to do. And I doubt the 'she' in the subtitles was a typo either.
