AE would have been next to impossible without some form of quicksave though. If you look at the puzzles, some of them are much, much harder than AO's

I don't know about AO, as I haven't finished it, but it's not like there are any actual
puzzles in AE. I don't recall ever actually spending any time trying to figure out what I was supposed to do.

Lorne Lanning himself once gave a hit that when lookng for secret areas in AO, listening for the sounds of things you can't see on the screen.
Example, the very first screen of AO, you can hear meat saws, on the secret area right below, there are 3 of them.
So AO did sort of have markers.

Not in the same way Exoddus did. Not all the secret areas can be found in that way and even with the ones that can it's hard to notice and doesn't show you the exact location.
