There was only one location where Shrykull power was needed to progress and the original game was pretty flexible about its usage at that point.
As well as in Monsaic Lines, I think it was supposed to be mandatory to use Shykull to execute the glukkons in the final screen, since otherwise you get shot to death. It is technically optional since you still get the ending cutscene if you get shot after pulling the lever, but it's one hell of an anti-climax if you don't use Shrykull.

If JAW remakes that area in Abe HD I think it shouldn't be skippable, but they
could add a "bad quarma" version of it where there are mudokons in the background instead of glukkons and pulling the gas shut off lever kills them somehow, sacrificing them to let Abe survive.
