It can be caused by either a corrupted Windows registry (which is most likely the case) or in a less likely case, by having your IDE interface set to a speed higher than the hard drive can support. For example, having it set to Ultra ATA/100 when the hard drive is only ATA/66. I don't expect you to know what I'm talking about, but it is a problem that needs to be looked at by a professional. I would love to fix it for you, but I doubt you'd box it up and ship it to me!

Wow that's a real bummer, will formatting my harddrive fix the problem, i could take it to a pro, but that will be just a waste of time if i can fix the problem on my own.
