My theory is that the Mudokon lightning spark (or whatever it was) damaged the electronics of the machines significantly, but left the structure of the building intact.

I thought it was shut down after Abe threw that switch right before entering the boardroom, and that with Molluck out of commission and all the workers freed, the place just fell into disarray on it's own. Anyone who has worked in a factory can tell you the negative impacts of abruptly halting assembly line machinery, especially with no workers to make repairs and turn it back on. No magic required.
