True empathy is understanding. Understanding you don't simply pass on to the next tweeter. Understanding means commitment.
So no, probably not both. Not to the vast majority of people sharing that link and posting it everywhere. Maybe to you, if you have the commitment and the respect to stick with the situation, continue gathering information, find any way you can to support efforts, keep the emotional attachment you feel now and see it through. That's most certainly not the majority of people though.
