Well it's not like the donaters get nothing.. Donating will ensure that they get the game on release and even Beta... so you could see it as a form of pre-ordering
But I think this wouldn't happen to everyone.. If Doublefine kept asking users for money, they'd get tired of it eventually. So I don't think it's some new way of funding games... too often anyway. But it definitely gives publishers something to shiver about
