Have you played Rayman games before? The yellow shiny things are Looms and you're supposed to collect them (if they didn't tell that in demo... well, I guess they should have then)

No I haven't. Yes, I figured that I had to collect them. I just didn't know
why.

About everything wanting to kill the player: it was well designed in original Rayman - you can tell from the look of enemy if he's hostile or friendly - dunno how about R: Origins (haven't played [console-exclusive  ])

Yes, I was able to identify most (but not all) things that wanted to kill me. I just didn't get
why. This part is mainly a criticism of the demo, rather than the game itself, but there was a distinct lack of context in everything.

R:O's got instakill? Woah, that's bad. There was no instakill in any rayman game (except getting killed by water etc)

Yes, unless I found a special floaty heart thing, enemies were instakill. And the save points were just far enough back to be annoying for someone as ham-fisted as me.
