Depends on your standards. This sort of thing is a natural phenomenon, but sometimes it is a result of human action, be it the introduction of invasive species that can breed with the natives, or altering the environment in a way that makes two species' natural ranges overlap. The effect can be the extinction of one or both of the original species, but in some cases can create a whole new species in a single generation. This usually happens in plants.
