Now, the studio in general apart from Miyazaki had two really good directors; Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) turns shit he touches into gold, but hasn't made a movie for years and Kondou (Whisper of the Heart) unfortunately was pegged as the successor of Ghibli but died young.
Miyazaki's son... I haven't watched Earthsea yet, but from everything OANST has told me about it, I doubt it will leave me very impressed. I'll take his latest film with a grain of salt though. Yonebayashi who recently directed The Borrower Arriety (Good, but not amazing, with a really nice moment that touched on Miyazaki's magic) is probably the hope of the studio.
