I have to monitor my bandwidth so I have a program running in the background. (40 GBs a month sucks - You'd think it's a lot, but it really isn't. I could double it to 80 but they'd charge me an extra £10 ontop of the £30 a month I pay already - Although that does include phone as well).
Apparently Minecraft uses anything between 400 and 800 kbs/s when loading landscape (it'll use less if you have your draw distance set lower), and 50-80 kb/s when you aren't moving around so much and are staying in one area.
