The only kind of multiplayer that would really be acceptable for me is the one that is currently in AO, maybe with the kind of tweaks mentioned above. Anyway, co-op would kind of suck, how would one make the room changing work so some assholes don't run back and forth through rooms just to piss off anyone actually trying to play?

I think in these modern times we can overcome the limitation of limiting both players to just one screen of the game; so people can be on two different screens at once. It's not like you're going to be playing with random people, so who's there to piss you off?
I hated the "multiplayer" (if you could call it that) in AO. Better off picking singleplayer and just handing the controller around.
