I own the original 2 CD version and it is working now through running the patch prior to starting the game, but thanks for the suggestion!!

which CD did you put in? and did you do a typical or full installation?
weird thing is...i can play on the install disk with the full installation.
it just says insert play cd for a few seconds and then it boots up.
also,i'm using windows XP home on BOTH of my computers and it works fine.
