Oh yeah... that dammed inaugral "Best Metal Performance" Grammy. Being a huge Metallica fan I remember the thinking words like "rigged" when I read about that years ago (I wasn't actually a Metallica fan at the time it happened). Metallica had even been chosen to perform at those awards, and were the favorites to win (with the song 'One' which was their first song to make it mainstream). Even the audience there were apparently in shock.
How anyone could have called Jethro Tull a "metal" band is beyond me ... more like folk rock!!!
Strangely the next few Grammy awards that Metallica were nominated for after that... they won! One theory is the Grammy comittee felt guilty. When they won the Grammy for Enter Sandman in 1991, Lars Ulrich got up at the presentation and thanked Jethro Tull (sarcastically of course).
