I sat down and started Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands last night. I think I’m a fair way into the plot now, and so far I’d say that the Sands of Time influence is definitely strong—gameplay’s much the same, but at a bit of a faster pace, which actually works quite well I think – makes you feel a bit more like an acrobat.
Not liking some of the “aha the floor fell out from under you, rewind!” bullshit the game likes to pull, but it’s thankfully not all that frequent and you get a decent amount of sand refills anyway.
So far the plot and setting just don’t wow me. Coming from the older games (which had some great atmosphere and eerie environments), it feels a little too generic and uninspired; enemy designs in particular feel kitschy, like they came form that other PoP game. Prince himself has his old charm, but without a companion character it feels a little understated.
