I don't believe Dr Pepper is a sponser as he drinks Dr Pepper in the original game, it doesn't appear on the sponsor list aaaand it's not actually called Dr Pepper, there's a letter different or something.
It's like when A Streetcar Called Desire came out and tee-shirt sales spiked because Marlon Brando looked so damn good in one. Except obviously not to the same extent.

I may be playing a bit with definitions, but I think it's still product placement if products are sold because they featured in a show. Even if you say it's not product placement and invent a new term to cover it, what does it have to do with Chaos Theory?
