As expected, Mojang are
working on bug fixes. ("1.7 worlds should get structures" is an interesting update - I wonder if they'll spawn randomly on old chunks, or if they simply didn't appear in new chunks after 1.8 on 1.7 worlds).
In the mean time, I've been trying the 1.8 pre-release.
I can't decide if the game is now too easy or not considering health now only restores slowly over time if your hunger bar is full, but finding food is incredibly easy, and while you can't restore health immediately when you want to (making lava and fire a hell of a lot more deadly), you can sprint everywhere now to dodge mobs - All you need is food.
It feels like the hunger bar should drain twice as fast as it does currently - Maybe that's something which will be changed in the actual update.
Travelling by Minecart for long distances is still a lot easier than sprinting though, perhaps they aren't obsolete after all.
I'm not entirely sure I like the new lighting - It looks a bit better if you up the new brightness slider to 50%, but the yellow tinge that the torches give off... Eurgh. And night time isn't dark anymore. Caves still are entirely dark, though.
Also F3 can no longer be used to find mobs through walls - The tags are gone.
Oh and for those of you who like brick: Clay is a LOT easier to find now. And I do like the new combat mechanics and new blocks. And Endermen scare the shit out of me. I'm loving the new biomes too.
