If someone I knew changed into a different person through an addiction and if their life went up the shitter purely because of their addiction then I would consider helping them in any way I can to be my duty as a friend.

That's what constitutes as harmful to self for me, not as simple as 'Taking drugs is auto harmful'.
Yea well... it's still an extreme, i think everyone can agree that if it gets as bad as someone's life going to the shitter, then it's something that should be helped.
Whether that's just a human duty or should be enforced by law, i dunno.

But it wasn't my original point, and I seriously dislike including extremes in these conversations when it's unneeded, because these are one of those things that are kind of a given, and they sort of require threads on their own.

I merely wanted to point out that i would get rid of intolerance to personal freedoms(as long as they remain personal or consented to).
