Do you really think so? That might be true in a number of cases (even most cases), but I have talked to people who enjoy other things about the cigarette rather than just the relief it provides. Like anything which is consumed, it has qualities which may appeal to some.
In fact, the smell may bother a lot of people, but since being a child, it's a smell which I've enjoyed, despite not being a smoker. You don't need an addiction or any other psychological problem to enjoy sensations like that.
It is more likely that a self-harmer is self-harming because he has mental problems than it is likely that I enjoy an unpopular smell because of mental problems.
