It's probably because you're so skinny. Everything else can be faked with costumery, but that's natural.
Which is not to say that all nerds are skinny; in real life that's certainly not true. But in films and tv, they always are. I suppose that's because there is no-one fat in Hollywood, so skinny is the only option if they don't want someone who's buff.
