Maybe Necrum Mines happened to be on the line to wherever the train was going?
Think of it like a passenger train going from Cardiff to London. It doesn't go directly from Cardiff to London, it goes through the other stops on the line such as Newport, Bristol ETC... and even if it was an express line that didn't stop at any other stations it would still at least pass through them.
