Nah, seriously. I do think a totally random seed would be better. That way we have to adapt to a world, rather than choose a world that suits us. Also, if we have a vote or a common seed, everyone will be scrambling for the best spots that they've already found, tested and chosen as their favourites.
To make my point, I've just started playing the gargamel seed recently, and it's really awesome, though I've done little there yet. There are a few spots that I really like, and if Havoc were to build a hotel on one of them I'd be greatly upset.
