I'm not saying you're not justified in not wanting kids. I'm not saying that it's particularly likely that you're going to change your mind about having kids. What I'm saying is that, as JG said, condoms and the pill are not so incredibly inconvenient as to justify undergoing general anaesthetic, surgery, the potential for infection, all the possible side-effect of all of the above and the incredibly slight possibility that you'll change your mind when you grow up.

I understand how you think his reasoning is flawed, but there's several alternative means of having a child that doesn't involving conceiving your own.
He can just freeze his sperm before the procedure if in case he has significant paternal quakes later in life. Or he could adopt.
Why even argue his mindset? I think it's sound, even if he is being a bit of a twat in defending it.
