We have to read a novel of our own choice and do a piece of work around it. I don't think any schools are awesome enough make reading Discworld mandatory.

I would have been thankful for that. I can only remember two pieces of work I've had where I got to choose the subject: A two minute speech on
anything for English GCSE (I chose superheroes) and a Russian GCSE speech on 'My Favourite TV Programme' (I picked Father Ted/Otyets Ted/Omemc Meg).
