I agree that that there are stereotypes of every culture, but no single stereotype is harped on so incessantly, or taken so seriously as that of the stupid, cultureless American.

Or maybe I just read too many of Havoc's posts.
You work in sales. You know the deal. People will tell three people about a negative experience versus telling one person about one that was positive. I think it's the exact same thing with cultures, ours in particular. You get some loud mouthed jackass from south Texas in France on business, and of course the waiter he offends is going to tell several of his friends about the 'big dumb loud' American that pissed him off at work that day. As for the quiet couple who took three years of French in college and keep their shit in check? Well, what is there to talk about, exactly?

And then you have our television programs/modern broadcasting content which seems to be nothing but reality television showcasing the rich and delightfully dim-witted, sitcoms featuring oversexed and mentally/socially inept yet decent looking people finding their way in life, and, of course, FOX fucking news. What would you think, if you found yourself on the outside looking in?
