I watched Requiem for a Dream last night.

Oh My God I don't want to see that again in about forever.
Have you read the book? I think Hubert Selby Jr. is a hell of a writer, but a little difficult. I'd lump him in with Cormac McCarthy in that you feel like opening a vein after finishing one of his books.

I've heard a lot of people say Requiem for a Dream is seriously depressing, but I'm curious to watch it despite my young age. Is it that bad? Will it scar me for the rest of my life?

I read the book before I saw the movie, so I wasn't that bothered by it. I don't think it's that bad. Sad, but not life ending. Plus it has a few pretty good laughs in it.
