Most of the film consisted of diplomatic/pseudo-political debate between Pirates/Traders/Supernatural Entities. The fact that Davy Jones could be forced into servitude, that his magnificent Kraken could actually be killed kind of deconstructed the lore into something cheap.

Personally I felt that was a result of the film's overall theme: the whole "the age of pirates is dying" thing.
