It can and you have no evidence to back up your "knowledge".
Seriously, there's having faith and there's being an insufferable asshole. You do not and
can not know that an afterlife exists.
Nobody knows this, they simply believe it.
Get your head out of your ass and realise that belief is not a substitute for knowledge.
