I fucking hate when something like that happens. I had the same thing against the final boss of Jade Cocoon 2 in my first playthrough. I managed to brute force my way to the Lilith nest, but when it came to fighting her I needed a team with a better strategy.
I started the fucking game again. Fuck. It was another 40 hours of playing before I managed to get back up to that fight.
