It was not a brilliant end to the trilogy. It was consistent story-wise, but the gameplay was miles behind its predecessor. The wasteland worked fairly well at best, and everything else was just bad. The city just didn't work in Jak 3. The Krimson-robot zone wasn't any fun and there was no reason to go there unless you were in a mission. The same applies to the Metal Head zone, which you only have to visit twice in missions (or 3 times if you don't complete 2 of the missions sequentially. I always have because I wanted to minimalise my visits to that god-awful place.)
The overpowered weapons completely destroyed the frantic feeling from Jak 2 and replaced it with a one man army feel. It was less fun. The game could have benefited from a complete rethink of balance. It would have fared well from less powerful enemies and weapons, no healing ability and better planed levels.
The temple bits and light Jak puzzles were probably the funnest parts of the game. The rest was fairly bad.
Also, the car physics were laughably bad. Building up speed and going over a huge jump then holding handbreak while landing will render you almost completely motionless.
