Yes, things aren't 100% equal here (there's still a pay gap in the UK, for example), but is the inequality really that terrible and life threatening here as most feminists like to point out?
|
Inequality is inequality is inequality, no matter how small or large the issue is.

But if it's so terrible here in Europe, why are only a tiny minority of women complaining about it, while the vast majority of the female population don't really see it as a problem, and don't feel persecuted?

I never said it was terrible in Europe or any specific place. I would argue that there should be more focus on feminism in countries where women are treated in the ways Scrabtrapman stated. However, I believe those are affairs best left to the people of those countries, and that while western women should definitely have an opinion on it, the dealings in oppressive countries should be handled by the locals.

I'm not saying that it shouldn't be talked about or addressed though - Yes, it is a perfectly valid issue. I just hate it when people take it far too seriously and they let it affect their way of thinking and day to day life

There are issues that everyone feels strongly about that we might not know or care enough about to be on the same page with them. That's just part of life, and it's their right to feel that way. I'm not going to dismiss the fact that there's a small, small minority of women who take feminism way beyond the boundaries of reason, but there are people like that in any progressive group.
Even I can't help but to roll my eyes at exploitative beer ads or rape jokes, and I just change the channel or put down what I'm seeing it in. I occasionally weigh in on the subject and I tend to agree with most feminists who view such things as degrading and dehumanizing. There are a few issues that I take a different stance on in feminism that many feminism might roll their eyes at as well, like the double standard approach to the rape of men.
It's a fascinating subject and you guys are doing yourselves a huge disservice by belittling or dismissing it because of the "feminazi" minority. There are people like that no matter what it is.
