and it's still legal to dump nuclear waste into the ocean. that's terrifying! can you imagine how much that fucks up the ecosystem?

I'd imagine it's much less than spewing greenhouse gases into the ecosystem, since it doesn't create huge holes in the ozone layer and doesn't melt the polar ice caps.
