If there were Meeches in the stock yards...pretty sure they'd have been found, that's like a Playstation Warehouse not knowing they got a hundred PS1s in some corner.

When you think about it, it's kind of weird that a large industrial farm/meat factory would even let a species go extinct. It's a grabbing moral in the story, yes, but if Molluck had any sense of business he would have kept a few Meeches back for breeding.
It's like every farmer on the planet is going to stop breeding cows and in a year we'll all go; ah bummer no more steaks, cows are extinct. It doesn't make sense.
