In my opinion, Abe's ability to speak through stitches is a poor story element.

His lips were stitched by Sam when he was a baby because he cried too much. These naturally have worn out over the years allowing him to talk.

And don't even get me started on his ability to whistle/chant like a native mudokon before coming to the native lands when he grew up in an industrial facility where he couldn't learn any of these skills.
