It could be that easy, but my guess is they might run into compatability issues since the original assets were made in 1997.
On top of that, they may want to update the original assets to a higher polycount (or whatever the 3D jargon is for it).

Remember that the '3d' models in Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus are really just sprites rendered in a 3d modeling application (Unless they were painted which I doubt) which means that they didn't really have a poly limit for the models, which could mean that they are usable without much tweaking (beside upgrading model versions etc.)
Wonder how much poly's the actual CGI Models in those games were, they could be suitable for a 3D game...
