I can agree with that. I it had hidden characters that I didn't even know about for years and everything. They were DAMN hard to unlock.
Fuck Mariokart. CTR is the best kart racer ever.
EDIT: It's the best PS1 game ever.

I spent forever trying to find a way to unlock the final boss as a playable character, but it turns out it's not possible.
Kind of surprising, considering how pretty much every other character in the series thus far was playable in that game.
I just looked it up to check and you CAN unlock that dude. Holy fuck, my childhood memories of perfecting that game are RUINED.
EDIT: Okay, so that's not true - you can unlock him via cheating, but that's it. Childhood restored.
