Carbon Monoxide... somehow coloured green, perhaps?
That or hydrogen cyanide. They're both toxic gases, so I'll be happy to settle with one of those.

Hmm...I don't think that carbon monoxide would been used. I don't think that it would make Abe choke to death like that, as it doesn't directly attack the lungs.
