Devil May Cry did it. Though I can't attest to whether or not they should have.

But that was a series reboot, and Devil May Cry is much better entrenched in the public's mind than Oddworld is at this point.
However, a complete series reboot, going all the way back to Abe's Oddysee could work very well.
